Good Afternoon! fellow Skalegues!

If I had known / I would be serving / as President of SKAL Seoul/ I should have asked my father / to marry English speaking woman / so that / English would be / my mother tongue!

I am very honored / to serve / as your president / of Seoul SKAL and I appreciate / your vote of confidence/ to me.

Please remain free / since I will do my best / for our Skalleagues’
happiness & friendship / during the Club activities / in my term.

During / my service / I will give / all my effort / to make / our Club enjoyable / and educational ever / through / providing / more valuable programs / and better activities.

We need recruit / more SKAL members / and young SKAL members / as well.
We need / better qualified / guest speakers / and more / enjoyable get together / besides monthly meeting. We need develop / more businesses / among our Skalleagues.

I promise you / another great year / with new Board Members’ dedication, However / I ask / my fellow Skalegues’ strong support / as well.

We will reach / this goals / based on achievements / of our past BOD members.
In this regard / Let’s give big applauds / to our immediate past President / Maureen and past Board Members / for their excellent job done together.

Let’s face / our new challenges together / and continue to promote / the role of tourism / through friendship / as SKAL has done / for more than / 80 years / so far.

What we need / as Skallegues / is friendship, 우정 / and harmony, 화합!
Not politics!!

I believe that / Friendship and harmony / is the ideals / of foundation / of SKAL International. Let’s move forward / to happy and / bright Blue Horse year.

[BIZ브리핑] 국제 SKAL 서울클럽, 2014년 신년회 개최

학자로는 최초로 박의서 안양대 교수 신임 회장 선출

세계 최대의 민간 관광 기구인 국제 SKAL 서울 클럽(www.skalseoul.org)이 1월 14일(화) 그랜드 하얏트 호텔에서 신임 회장 취임식을 겸한 신년회를 개최했다.

금년 한 해 동안 서울 클럽의 모든 대내외 업무를 총괄하는 37대 회장에는 박의서 안양대 교수(관광경영학)가 선임되어 전임 회장으로부터 메달을 넘겨 받아 공식적인 업무를 시작했다. 서울 클럽의 회장에 업계 실무자가 아닌 관광학과 교수가 선임된 것은 서울클럽의 37년간 역사상 처음이다.

박의서 신임 회장은 1978년 한국관광공사에 입사하여 22년간 재직하면서 마케팅지원 처장, 밀라노 지사장, 뉴욕 차장 등 주로 해외 마케팅 업무에 종사했으며, 2002년 안양대학교 강화캠퍼스 관광경영학과 교수로 부임한 이후 이 대학의 강화 캠퍼스 학장을 역임했다.

박 회장은 취임 인삿말에서 “지난 37년간 쌓아온 스콜 서울클럽의 전통을 이어나가는 동시에 22년간의 실무 경험과 현재 몸담고 있는 학계에서의 지식을 바탕으로 회원 모두에게 유익한 방향으로 서울 클럽을 이끌어 나가도록 최선을 다하겠습니다”라고 밝혔다.

박의서 회장은 2014년 SKAL을 함께 이끌어갈 운영 임원도 발표했다. 신규 임원은 수석 부회장에 마크 핸들(리츠칼튼 호텔 총지배인), 부회장 김연경(프로맥파트너쉽 이사), 사무국장에 심미경(Koridoor 여행사 대표), 재무이사 김보영(이탈리아 관광청 소장), 커뮤니케이션 이사에 니콜 쉽튼(인덕대학교 관광학과 교수), 회원 개발 담당 이사에 스티브 리비어(10 매거진 발행인) 가 각각 선임되었다.

1934년에 설립되어 76년의 역사를 자랑하는 국제 SKAL 클럽은 전세계 관광산업을 이끌어 가는 관광 전문가들로 구성된 단체로서 현재 90여 개국 500개의 클럽에 2만 여명의 회원을 보유하고 있다. 관광업계의 주요 인사들로 이루어진 스콜은 도시별, 국가별, 지역별, 전세계 단위의 모임을 통해 회원간의 공통 관심이나 주제에 대해 토론하고 실행한다.

Fellow Skaleagues,

Even though mid term of my presidency, I decided to resign. Physically the President Chain on my shoulder has been quite heavy during last couple months.

My sudden decision must have startled all of you and I wish to sincerely apologize if there was any confusion may have been caused.

I thank and feel sorry for those Skaleagues who have supported me including the dedicated Board Members.

Concerning my resignation nobody should be blamed but myself because it was my own decision due to personal matters. Of course there have been certain level of conflicts in running of SKAL but which is quite normal to any organization.

Even though I step down from presidency I will continue to participate SKAL activities as an ordinary member after some months break.

With leadership of new president Brian Harris who is legally elected, I wish SKAL International Seoul will continue to grow.

Once again thank you for your support and now old boy just disappear.
